I think the color is best left to the cuda imho. I have a chance to buy a 71 no motor or trans I know off topic but what do you think smart investment ?

What's the condition and price?
Resto-mods with modern crate engines, good interiors, modern suspension and a few special touches go for around $50,000-$100,000.
However, if the body has rust or you're not able to dump $20,000 into it to get it perfect, then its just not worth it. Being "numbers-matching" is extremely important with these cars, and I can assume the original engine and transmission are gone.
Also, what were the original engine and transmission to begin with?
The more homework you do, the more money you can make with those cars.

I don't know what they're asking for it or anything, but just the fact that you CAN buy it should be enough to convince you. Cudas are rising crazily much in value and the '71 is considered the best year. Buy it and swap in a 440 or hemi 427, it'll pay off
big time.

The body right now is ready for paint all prepped and primed it completely straight was an original 318 with a 4 speed and ac p/s so no 440 or 426 so I would be doing a resto mod but over a long time because like you said I don't have the 20 grand to dump into it right away but I'm sure I can get a pretty good price for it any cuda is just expensive as all hell right now so I'm hoping I can get it for 5 grand especially since I know the guy personally.

I would get it, but only under the assumption that you can build it properly later. That means having a mechanic who can do a full engine swap, a re-assembled and renovated interior, and a new suspension.

Here's some more examples: http://www.cudaworld.com/catAds.php?cat…
If you put in a modern 426 Hemi crate motor and a good pistol-grip shifter on a manual transmission, you can get a good return on the car. The quality, speed, and results of the work are incredibly important, so unless you trust your own mechanical ability to do all of that, you need a great mechanic that wont' cost too much. Plus, you need a vision for the car, not just a bunch of parts, to give some sort of special quality to the vehicle. Like art.

Yes that's exactly what I want to do with it it will take time but if you do it right then the return should be great looks like a promising big project thanks for the info and advice I'm gonna be calling the guy tomorrow.
